Dekar made his debut in Estpolis Biography II, a 16-bit RPG released in 1995 in Japan (the game made it to North America a year later). He was one of seven playable characters. As a fighter, he was the stereotypical muscle man; as a character, he shouldered most of the game's comedy relief. Strong, handsome and a little lovesick, he was nevertheless totally incapable of getting a girl because of his arrogance and stupidity. But among fans, he is very well-received. He is the fan favorite of the series, bar none.

The third entry in the Estpolis series occurred about 200 years after Estpolis II and consequently didn't feature Dekar at all (although there is this curiously-named Deckard character...). In 2004, the fourth entry was released, as a gaiden or side-story that occurred twenty years after Estpolis II. In Estpolis Gaiden, Dekar was again a playable character for a portion of the game, but he was twenty years older and not as strong as he used to be (but definitely smarter).

Six years later, a three-dimensional upgrade of Estpolis II is released. The Lands Cursed by the Gods shows off a completely redesigned Dekar. He's no longer a swordsman, but rather a jack of all trades in weaponry, and he traded his suit of armor for a more modern outfit. Nevertheless, he is still the same arrogant fighter we know and love.

Dekar has been around for almost twenty years, has survived the aging process and a total redesign, and yet still manages to be as beloved as ever.
