Portrait of a WarriorDekar's stay with the party is all too brief in Estpolis II. Here's some gameplay strategy for his time on your team.
// Strengths and WeaknessesDekar isn't full of hot air when he says he's the strongest man alive, at least not when it comes to the playable characters in Estpolis II. In the areas of hit points (HP), attack power (ATP), defense (DFP) and strength (STR), he blows everyone else out of the water, Guy included. He's also the only character besides Maxim to have a default Gut level of 100. The Gut attribute affects ikari power (IP), making Dekar's use of IP attacks very effective in battles.
Like any big muscly character, Dekar is low in agility (AGL), intelligence (INT) and magic resistance (MGR). While intelligence doesn't matter much in battle (it's the measure of a character's magical skill, and Dekar can't use magic), its low level does make him vulnerable to sleep and confusion. You'll also learn that even the Fake spell isn't enough to make Dekar fast in battle. He'll almost always go last (though the right equipment can change that; see here).
// Level-UpsDuring level-ups, Dekar's largest increases always occur with HP and strength. In some cases, those may be the only attributes that do increase. He makes little leaps in his weak areas on some occasions, usually in the 1- to 3-point range (though I noticed that when you first start fighting with him, those stats can increase dramatically).
// Battle FormationWith his amazing physique, Dekar is wasted in the back row in battles. The best place for him is front and center — that is, the front row in the rightmost spot. This position tends to take the most roughing up from monsters, which he can handle with ease.
// The Ancient CaveHands down, Dekar is one of the best characters to take into this dungeon. His great strength still shines through even on low levels, and his high HP will prove to be a lifesaver the deeper inside you go. It should also be noted that it's extremely difficult, if not impossible, to defeat the Ancient Slime without Dekar in your party. Only he can wield the Dekar Blade, whose ikari power cuts an enemy's HP in half.
There is one downside to having him along, however, and that would be his slowness. The lower you go into the cave, the faster the monsters get and the more difficult it is to keep your levels on par with theirs. In many fights, Dekar won't even be able to strike until a round of enemy attacks have been completed. Having a quick healer character target him or the entire party with a healing spell every round can ease this situation a bit, especially in the more difficult battles. So too can the right equipment (go here for more).
