The Aries Man
Those with even the faintest notion of Astrology may be curious as to what sign fits Dekar. When the word "sign" is used like that, one is asking for the Sun sign, or the position of the Sun at birth. Generally speaking the Sun represents one's will and ego, and is viewed by many Astrologers as being the core of one's personality.
To find someone's Sun sign, all you need is a birthdate. Dekar didn't get one of those, at least not officially, but we can look to his basic personality traits for the slice of the year when it would most likely be.
From the start, we see that Dekar is a very open, positive character. There's no darkness or secrets to him. He's passionate, egotistical, proud and an eternal optimist. He acts without thinking. He's courageous and quick to throw himself into a battle. He seems to view himself as a superhero of sorts; he tends to overestimate his strengths. These are the traits of Aries, the Ram, the first sign of the Zodiac.
Like any Aries, Dekar likes to take the lead. He likes to go first. Take the scene in Narcysus after all the girls leave. "We've got to do something to save them!" he cries. "I'm off!" In the heat of their passions, Aries folks tend to forget about everyone else. They also tend to be self-centered, though this is almost always inoffensive. Aries are humorous creatures, which explains Dekar's penchant for making us laugh. The stupidity? Any sign can be stupid; it's the way they express it that is of concern here. In Dekar's case, he's all action and almost no thought. That's a typical Aries fault.
